Settle it already

There seems to be growing local sentiment to encourage Liberty Utilities to strike a deal with the town and settle on a purchase price for the water system without all the drama and expense of more hearings and a trial.

The voters have spoken and although the town will not say they feel very confident about being granted the right to claim the system through eminent domain at an upcoming hearing this fall, they do. Even if Liberty Utilities has said they will never negotiate an end to this, some hope they might. Frankly, the only ones who are in a lose-lose situation are tax-paying resident ratepayers. We get the bill no matter when it’s over.

Wouldn’t it be good community relations to at least offer to have a serious settlement conference with the town?
