Since I’ve been an occasional financial contributor to the Jarvis organization for their efforts to protect Prop. 13, I was a little taken aback by this foray into a local water issue. From my past experience in political campaigns, I’m well aware that you can purchase endorsements and goodwill from the Jarvis people by writing a big enough check to get on their election time slate mailers or use their logo on your political mailings. As it happens, I did have a chance to speak with Mr. Coupal himself at the State Republican Convention in Anaheim last week. I gave him a very brief background of the issue and indicated many of his supporter-donors hereabouts seemed perplexed by the Jarvis endorsement of the effort to block any municipal takeover. He assured me, several times, that no position was taken by the Jarvis organization on this issue and his intent was only to encourage taxpayers to understand the true costs associated with these types of actions.
