TOAV directs staff to make preparations for AVRWC acquisition (April 29, 2015)

Super-majority ratification required at next meeting

APPLE VALLEY — The Town Council, after a long night of presentations, comments and question and answers, directed staff to lay the groundwork for acquiring Apple Valley Ranchos Water Co.

Council directed staff to proceed with preparation and completion of financial and other legal documents to consider pursuing the acquisition of the water company at our next meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Barb Stanton said Wednesday.

If a final vote comes on the matter, it will have to consist of a super-majority of the council — effectively a unanimous decision.

Mayor Larry Cusack is recusing himself from discussions because his company, Apple Valley Communications, has business dealing with AVR. Curt Emick was absent from the Tuesday night meeting due to the death of his father, Stanton said.

Of the 25 residents who spoke during the special meeting in the Apple Valley Conference Center, adjacent to Town Hall, roughly two-thirds spoke against a long-considered acquisition.
