Stop repeating nonsense (May 10, 2017)

I hope the Daily Press is at least considering discontinuing the publication of letters from supporters of the Town of Apple Valley’s hostile water takeover that repeat the same old debunked points again and again and again (“Liberty Utilities,” Daily Press, May 5, 2017). They do nothing to advance the discussion of this vital issue.

These would include implying that Liberty Utilities should not defend itself from the predations of the Town, and that monies spent on this defense will somehow show up in our water bills. The first implication is not only wrong but un-American. The second is not going to happen because it is against the law for Liberty to add these expenses into a rate case, and neither the California Public Utilities Commission nor the Office of Ratepayer Advocates would allow it.

I’d also vote to add a ban on claims that we pay substantially more for water delivery in Apple Valley than in surrounding areas.

The Apple Valley Town Council and staff have promulgated so many other lies, half-truths, exaggerations, and prejudice that even eliminating these three still leaves plenty to discuss.
