Failure of government (May 10, 2017)

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is credited with saying, “The best of all government is that which teaches us to govern ourselves.”

By that metric, the Apple Valley Town Council has failed us.

The story goes that some residents of the town approached the Town Council to complain about water rates. Instead of urging conservation or taking some other constructive action, the Town Council began a years-long jihad against the water company, that so far has cost us millions of dollars and put us on the hook for many millions more. Not one penny of these millions will have gone toward providing us with even a single drop of water, nor in altering the inescapable fact that here in the desert, water should be cherished, not used profligately.

To ensure our town’s survival, we must not let the architects of this failure to seize control of our water system. We must vote no on Measure F.
